SP warns youth against social media scams

District Crime Branch SP Firoz M. Shafiq has warned youth about the rising threat of social media scams and online trafficking traps. The warning was issued during an awareness event held in observance of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
Why it matters
As digital adoption grows, awareness of online exploitation is critical for protecting vulnerable populations from financial and human trafficking scams.
District Crime Branch Superintendent of Police (SP) Firoz M. Shafiq has urged young people to avoid becoming dependent on social media and remain cautious against online traps.
He was speaking after inaugurating a programme organised by the Victims Information, Sensitisation, Welfare and Assistance Society (VISWAS) at Bharathamatha CMI Public School here on Thursday as part of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
Mr. Shafiq said cases of people, especially youngsters, being lured through attractive offers and false promises on social media platforms were increasing. He advised the youth to stay vigilant and protect themselves from such attempts.
