SP orders probe into alleged torture of theft case suspect

Superintendent of Police Vishwesh Balasubramaniam Shastri has ordered for an inquiry into the alleged torture of a theft case suspect.

Police said Augustine Baskar of Vallaththu Nambikulam filed a complaint with Veeravanallur police station after gold ornaments weighing 10 grams were stolen from his house. He also suspected that R. Antony from the same village might have stolen the valuable.

Meanwhile, Mr. Antony had admitted himself in the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital saying that two unidentified persons had assaulted him. When the police met him in the TVMCH to inquire him about the attack, he told the police that he would file a complaint after two days.

The police videographed this conversation with Mr. Antony undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, a complaint signed by Mr. Antony was submitted at the Veeravanallur police station on Thursday evening and the copy of the same was sent to Mr. Vishwesh Balasubramaniam Shastri by post.
