South Central Railway (SCR) detected 4,121 cases of ticketless travel and unbooked luggage during a day-long special drive conducted on Monday. A total penalty of ₹30.53 lakh was collected from the offenders.
The intensive inspection drive was carried out by 186 ticket-checking staff aboard 169 trains across the jurisdictions of the Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Nanded divisions.
Apart from ticketless travel, railway officials also booked passengers for other offences. Thirty-five passengers were penalised for littering, resulting in fines of ₹7,300. Action was also taken against 19 unauthorised hawkers, from whom penalties amounting to ₹38,000 were collected. Two passengers were fined ₹4,000 for smoking.
