'Sorry': Kiwi Ryan Wood to start Bathurst from the back after crash

Supercars driver Ryan Wood will start the Bathurst 1000 from the back of the grid after a practice crash damaged his car. His team decided to withdraw the vehicle from qualifying to focus on repairs.

<p>Kiwi Supercars driver Ryan Wood has been ruled out of <a href="https://www.1news.co.nz/2026/10/09/bathurst-1000-the-driver-pairs-to-watch-out-for/" target="_blank">qualifying for the Bathurst 1000</a> and will start from the back of the grid after a crash in practice left his car heavily damaged.</p> <p>The TWG Racing driver hit the outside wall after clipping the inside while coming out of Forrest's Elbow. </p> <p>"Clipped the inside wall," Wood said, over the radio. "So sorry."</p> <p>His engineer replied: "Mate, it's practice. You're always going to have to try it, so it's alright. We'll get it fixed up." </p> <p>The session was red-flagged, and Wood's car was removed from the track. </p> <p>The crash occurred at a crucial part of the weekend, with qualifying set to take place at 6pm tonight NZT.
