Someone put Apple's iOS on a Redmi Note 12

A developer has successfully booted iOS 16 on a Redmi Note 12 smartphone by patching Apple's open-source kernel. While the project demonstrates technical ingenuity, the device remains largely non-functional for daily use due to hardware compatibility issues.
Why it matters
This project highlights the complexities of cross-platform hardware-software integration and the capabilities of open-source kernel modification.
A developer who goes by Makr has booted real iOS 16 on a Redmi Note 12 4G and posted the video on X on 18th October 2026. In the two-and-a-half-minute clip, kernel text scrolls down the Xiaomi's screen before the Apple logo appears and opens onto the iOS lock screen. The clock reads Wednesday, December 31, 4:10, because the phone has no real-time clock.
