Somanna petitions Shah for ST tag for Kadugollas

Union Minister V. Somanna has petitioned Home Minister Amit Shah to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Kadugolla community in Karnataka. The proposal is currently under review by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
Why it matters
The classification of communities as ST has significant implications for social welfare, political representation, and affirmative action.
Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna on Thursday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and petitioned for the inclusion of the Kadugolla community in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) list.
Referring to an earlier petition, Mr. Somanna said in his letter to Mr. Shah, “It has been informed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) that the Office of the Registrar General of India (ORGI) has examined the proposal and forwarded it to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.”
