MOGADISHU, 29 September 2026 - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will travel to Addis Ababa on Tuesday for talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed before making a one-day visit to Djibouti on Wednesday, Somali government officials told Dawan Media. The visit to Ethiopia comes as fighting has intensified in the north of the country following the formation of an alliance of seven armed groups, including the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), which has announced its opposition to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government. Tigrayan forces have expanded their offensive into neighbouring Afar and Amhara regions, with the renewed fighting raising concerns about a wider conflict and its potential impact on regional security and trade routes.
