Smarter parking at Entebbe: UCAA rolls out AI camera system, digital payments

Entebbe International Airport has upgraded its parking system with AI-powered cameras and digital payment integration to reduce traffic congestion. The new system, developed by Scheidt & Bachmann, improves license plate recognition even under poor conditions.
Why it matters
The implementation demonstrates the practical application of AI in infrastructure to improve operational efficiency and user experience in public transport hubs.
Entebbe International Airport has revamped its car park payment infrastructure, integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning technology to eliminate traffic bottlenecks at entry and exit gates.
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) executed the system upgrade through local contractor Samanga Utilities Limited. The updated framework runs on entervo V3, a new-generation parking management software developed by German firm Scheidt & Bachmann, alongside modern Gen 40 hybrid machines that support both ticketed and ticketless access.
The interventions address long-standing entry and exit delays triggered by traffic surges during peak travel hours, aiming to deliver a seamless flow for airport commuters.
UCAA Manager of Public Affairs, Vianney Luggya, noted that the upgrade incorporates touchless interactions, license plate recognition, and expanded digital payment channels.
