Slap row: Delhi HC seeks response from police, Parvesh Verma

The Delhi High Court has ordered police and Minister Parvesh Verma to respond to a petition regarding an alleged assault on an AAP worker. The petitioner is seeking an independent investigation and police protection due to subsequent threats.
Why it matters
The case highlights concerns regarding political accountability and the impartiality of local police investigations when high-ranking officials are involved in alleged misconduct.
The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the city police and Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma to respond to a plea seeking an independent probe into the incident where the leader allegedly slapped an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) worker.
Mr. Verma had allegedly slapped a man during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar on September 27.
Justice Sachin Datta issued a notice on the petition and asked the police to file a status report. The court also asked Mr. Verma to submit his reply to the plea.
During the brief hearing, the counsel for the police raised objection to the maintainability of the petition, which also sought police protection for petitioner Sahib Singh and his family members.
The court said that the matter will be heard next on November 17.
