SkyCity Entertainment Group plans to lay off 200 to 250 staff, mainly in Auckland, to reduce corporate costs following a rising labour bill reported in a downbeat full-year result today.

The company has also announced it is considering selling its Adelaide hotel and casino.

“Unfortunately, this is a very difficult decision that no one wants to make. We believe this is the right decision for our business and puts it back on a positive footing,” Walbridge said.

Many of these jobs are in Auckland and consultation had already begun with those employees, he said.
