According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, an 'initial enquiry' made by the Red Devils has been swiftly rebuffed by Newcastle.
United's links with Hall have increased in recent weeks after they sanctioned the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans before turning their attention to the defence.
However, they have not gone as far as testing Newcastle's resolve with an offer, and are now highly unlikely to do so due to the Magpies' firm stance.
They have already reluctantly bid farewell to Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali since the window opened, while talisman Bruno Guimaraes is on the verge of completing a switch to Arsenal .
