Sirimanotsavam to be celebrated as State festival
The Andhra Pradesh government has officially designated the Sirimanotsavam festival as a State festival. Officials have pledged funding and support for the upcoming event, which is expected to draw nearly two lakh participants.
Why it matters
State recognition of local cultural festivals often leads to increased government funding, tourism promotion, and infrastructure development.
Minister for MSME Kondapalli Srinivas, Vizianagaram MP Kalisetti Appala Naidu, TDP MLA Aditi Vijaya Lakshmi Gajapathi Raju and other leaders offered prayers to ‘Sirimanu’, a long trunk of a tamarind tree, at Jonnavalasa village in Vizianagaram district on Monday, ahead of Sirimanotsavam slated to be held on October 27.
Every year, one tree is selected and chopped as ‘Sirimanu ’, which will be used for the annual Sirimanotsavam.
The Minister said that Sirimanotsavam will be celebrated as a State festival, highlighting that the government was making elaborate arrangements for the annual festival in which nearly two lakh devotees are expected to take part.
