SIR: Solidarity rally taken out in Vijayapura
Protesters in Vijayapura held a rally to express solidarity with anti-SIR demonstrators who were recently arrested in New Delhi. Speakers criticized the Union government for allegedly using repressive tactics to silence dissent and protect constitutional values.
Why it matters
The rally reflects growing political polarization and public concern regarding the government's handling of protests and constitutional governance in India.
Members of various organisations held a rally in Vijayapura on Sunday (October 11) in solidarity with the anti-SIR protesters who faced police action and arrests in New Delhi.
They gathered at Dr. Ambedkar Circle and shouted slogans against the BJP-led Union government for “trying to repress all pro-people protests by force’’.
Bhagwan Reddy, SUCI (C) district secretary, said that the Delhi protests were taken out by several organisations for a valid cause: protecting Constitutional values. “The protests were not limited to any party, ideology or caste or religion. They were meant to be peaceful and not disturb law and order. But the police used repressive measures against protesters,’’ he said.
