SIR: NDA defends bulk filing of Form 7, alleges ‘police intimidation’ by Congress; Karnataka CM hits back
The NDA alliance has complained to the Karnataka Governor, alleging police intimidation of workers filing Form-7 for electoral revisions. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has countered these claims, accusing the BJP of a criminal conspiracy regarding voter list manipulation.
Why it matters
This escalation reflects deep-seated distrust between political rivals regarding the integrity of the electoral process.
Defending the filing of Form 7 applications (for objections and seeking deletions) in bulk, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), comprising the BJP and JD(S), submitted a complaint to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Tuesday, arguing that the Congress government was using the police machinery to intimidate BJP and JD(S) workers during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and that there was no bar on filing multiple Form 7 applications.
In their letter, the NDA said criminal cases were being registered against those filing Form 7 applications, with the Congress government creating “fear and apprehension” among objectors even when they were only exercising their “legitimate statutory right”.
