SIR in Andhra Pradesh extended for third time; final electoral roll on October 16
Andhra Pradesh has extended its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls for the third time, with the final publication now set for October 16, 2026. The extension aims to clear administrative backlogs and process pending claims and objections.
Why it matters
Accurate electoral rolls are fundamental to democratic processes, and repeated delays can impact the readiness for future electoral cycles.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh has been extended for the third time, and the Election Commission of India (ECI) has now scheduled publication of the final electoral roll for October 16, 2026.
Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav, in a press release on Wednesday (September 30, 2026), said that under the revised schedule, the disposal of claims and objections under the notice phase will continue until October 10, following which the final electoral roll will be published on October 16.
The SIR exercise was formally launched in Andhra Pradesh on May 14, following the ECI’s announcement of Phase III of the revision, with July 1, 2026, fixed as the qualifying date.
