SIR: EC to issue notices to over 2.4 lakh voters in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts
The Election Commission is issuing notices to over 2.4 lakh voters in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts to address discrepancies in electoral rolls. Voters must verify their details and provide documentation to ensure their names remain on the list.
Why it matters
Maintaining accurate electoral rolls is critical for democratic integrity and ensuring all eligible citizens can exercise their right to vote.
With the draft electoral roll prepared as per the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) set to be published on August 24, the Election Commission (EC) will send notices to as many as 2.47 lakh voters in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
The notices will be issued to them as their names mismatch with the names mentioned in the 2002 electoral roll and names of some of them have not been mapped, according to the EC officials.
After the end of first phase of the SIR on August 17, names of 1.57 lakh voters mismatch and some of them have not been mapped in Dakshina Kannada. This number stands at 97,697 in Udupi district, the officials said.
