Sinesipho Dambile wins historic Commonwealth Games 200m gold

--> South African sprinter Sinesipho Dambile won the gold medal in the 200 metres at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, United Kingdom. With a time of 19.96 seconds, the 24-year-old became the first South African to win the men's race over this distance in the tournament's history, Daily Maverick reports .

Dambile finished first in the overall Diamond League standings. He won the meet in Doha, placed second five times and finished third once. The sprinter came second in the Diamond League final in Brussels.

During the season, he set personal bests twice, including running the 200 metres in 19.74 seconds in Doha in June. The athlete covered the distance in under 20 seconds nine times, with eight such races in a row since June. Last year, Dambile broke 20 seconds for the first time, clocking 19.97 seconds in the World Championships semi-finals in Tokyo.
