According to the police, on September 30, they received tip off that sand was being smuggled from the waterways from the lands abutting the water body, at Kodukizhi hamlet. Sub-inspector Muthuvel and head constable Raman patrolled the areas abutting the waterway on September 30 night when they spotted a sand-laden tractor.
