Shree Rama Prateeksha comes to Bengaluru

The Bengaluru-based theatre group Prabhat Kalavidaru is reviving its acclaimed dance ballet 'Shree Rama Prateeksha' after a 15-year hiatus. The production, which explores the Ramayana through the perspectives of characters like Sita and Hanuman, has been updated with modern lighting and English subtitles.
Why it matters
The revival highlights the evolution of traditional Indian performing arts and their efforts to remain relevant to modern, diverse audiences.
Bengaluru-based theatre group Prabhat Kalavidaru was the first troupe of its kind in South India to use pre-recorded music in its performances, back in the 1960s, says Harrish Prabhat, Managing Director and the grandson of Harikatha Vidwan Gopinath Das, who founded the troupe. According to him, Gopinath Das, “got a lot of opposition from many theatre stalwarts for not using live music.”
