Show HN: An experimental pattern-first DAW that supports MCP
Blokkily is an experimental digital audio workstation (DAW) that utilizes a pattern-first approach and supports the Music Control Protocol (MCP). It integrates various plugin formats like CLAP and VST3 into a unified, sample-accurate musical model.
Why it matters
It represents a technical innovation in music production software, focusing on deterministic event models and LLM-assisted composition.
Blokkily is an experimental pattern-first DAW. A single event model drives three synchronized editors — a tracker, a piano roll, and a step grid — which are in turn one lane of a multi-track song. CLAP is a required native plugin format, not a compatibility add-on.
The workstation screenshot is the rendered bdd_session_everything session: a song with a tempo ramp, a 7/8 bar, keyed and sliced samplers, CLAP, VST3 and SoundFont instruments, a warped audio clip, built-in and CLAP/VST3 effects, a return/send bus, gain and effect automation, a count-in, and two armed tracks that took MIDI from a deterministic input. Above the editors is the prompt bar of the LLM composition assistant (described below).
