An accused in a murder case was shot in the leg by the police in the early hours of Monday, after he allegedly assaulted a policeman and attempted to escape from custody.

Umesh, the prime accused in the murder of one Kiran — a case reported on Sunday — sustained a bullet injury to his left leg and is undergoing treatment at McGann Hospital here.
