At last year’s World Championships, the men’s 200 breaststroke final produced one of the most exciting finishes of the competition as the lead changed hands three times and the winner came from Lane Eight. The order of finish ended up being fairly predictable: China’s Qin Haiyang winning gold ahead of Japanese veteran Ippei Watanabe and Dutchman Caspar Corbeau . All had been considered potential medal-winners prior to the competition. But no one broke 2:07 in that race, creating the possibility of a much different field in 2026 and beyond.
