Uma Maheswari (28) wife of Suresh Kumar had given birth to a male baby on September 22 at the government hospital in Karaikudi in Sivaganga district. Hence, she was eligible for the one gram of gold ring as per the announcement made by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.

The young mother received the token as well from the authorities and when she went to the GH, she was disappointed as the officials claimed that the system rejected her application on ‘technical grounds’.

Speaking to reporters, she said that after her marriage, she has been living in Mysuru with her husband Suresh Kumar, who is employed there.

She said that her parents - Arumugam and Latha - lived in Kazhani Vaasal near Karaikudi. She was with her mother for the last six months for her second delivery and that her first child was delivered in the Government Hospital in Karaikudi.
