Shania Twain turned childhood hunger into school support for vulnerable kids
Shania Twain has often spoken about the childhood experiences that shaped her, including going to school without breakfast or lunch. In 2010, she turned that memory into action by founding Shania Kids Can, a school-based programme created to support vulnerable children through food assistance, academic help, one-on-one guidance, and a safe place to belong. According to the Shania Twain Foundation, Twain has said that hunger left her without energy, enthusiasm, or motivation to interact with others during her school years. The organisation, now part of the Shania Twain Foundation, focuses on food insecurity, youth empowerment, and mental wellbeing. Its work includes a Shania Kids Can Clubhouse at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School in North Las Vegas, created through a partnership with Communities In Schools of Southern Nevada.
