Joel was taken into custody by the Thiruvananthapuram Cantonment police from near Women’s College, Palikkunnu, Kannur.
The police have registered a case against 31 SFI leaders and activists, including charges such as attempt to murder and other non-bailable offences.
The police action took place while Joel was in Kannur for activities related to the college union election.
