SFI calls for action amid ‘rising’ student suicides in A.P.

The Student Federation of India (SFI) has raised alarms over a recent spike in student suicides in Andhra Pradesh, blaming educational institution management. They are calling for stricter enforcement of Supreme Court guidelines regarding student counseling and safety.
Why it matters
The issue highlights systemic failures in student mental health support and the lack of accountability for educational institutions in India.
Leaders of the Student Federation of India (SFI) expressed deep concern on Saturday over the deaths of four students who had ended their lives within a span of just two days in the State.
The federation’s State president P. Rammohan and State secretary K. Prasanna Kumar, in a press release, also demanded stringent action against those responsible for the death of GSL Medical College student Priyanka, who was allegedly knocked down by a vehicle in Rajamahendravaram.
Raising serious concern over what they described as the increasing number of suicides among students in the State, they alleged that the conduct and the functioning of the managements of educational institutions were major contributing factors.
