Why it matters
The analysis provides expert insight into the career trajectory and psychological state of one of tennis's most successful athletes.
Once again, Novak Djokovic showed everyone he is far from being done on the ATP Tour at this year's China Open.
The Serb flew to Asia off the back of a very disappointing North American hard-court swing, during which he crashed out in the opening rounds of both the Cincinnati Open and the US Open. But in Beijing, Djokovic produced an incredible campaign to secure his 102nd tour-level crown and become the first player ever to win an ATP title every year for 21 straight seasons.
He also extended his remarkable China Open undefeated streak to 34-0, surpassing Rafael Nadal's Roland Garros record for the most consecutive wins at a single event from their tournament debut.
