Supporters of the Rigathi Gachagua's DCP broke into songs of praise and worship on Thursday night as provisional results showed their candidate, Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, heading for victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
Led by Nyandarua Senator John Methu, hundreds of party supporters sang, danced and prayed before heading to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) constituency tallying centre at Ol Kalou Senior School, where the final results were expected to be announced.
The jubilant supporters were heard singing the popular gospel hymn, "Ametenda maajabu na siwezi kueleza" (He has done wonders and I cannot explain), as they thanked God for what they believed would be a historic victory for the party.
Others chanted victory slogans as they marched towards the tallying centre, where security had been heightened following the close of voting.
