Primary night in Massachusetts returned a decisive win for Senator Ed Markey, the 80-year-old incumbent in the state’s marquee Democratic primary, while Governor Maura Healey learned which Republican she’ll face in November’s general election. In US House races, incumbents broadly prevailed, and a former Biden White House aide rose to the top of a crowded field to secure the Democratic nomination to represent the North Shore.
In downtown Boston, Markey spoke to a cheering crowd and touted his win as a “progressive movement fueled by young people demanding more from their leaders.” Earlier in the night, Moulton briefly took the stage and told supporters in Dorchester that Markey has his “full support as our Democratic nominee.”
