Security has been increased in Uganda's Mubende District following a series of mysterious machete attacks that resulted in three deaths. Local officials are puzzled by the motive, as the assailants killed victims without stealing valuables.
Why it matters
The unexplained nature of these violent attacks has created significant fear and instability within the local community.
Security has been beefed up in Kitenga Sub-county, Mubende District, following an attack by machete-wielding men that left three people dead and five injured, sending a wave of fear among the people.
Mubende Resident District Commissioner, Ms Beatrice Katsigazi, said security personnel have established bases within Kitenga Sub-county to coordinate security threats in the area and apprehend possible culprits.
Residents say they have been spending sleepless nights following the puzzling attack in which the assailants only hacked people and left behind their valuables, including money.
Mr Dennis Baraka, a resident of Kitenga and the Kayebe Parish chief, said the conduct of the attackers was particularly puzzling because they reportedly entered homes without breaking down doors, killed their victims and left without taking some of the valuables they found.
