Secret Service officials placed on leave in inquiry over ‘potential misconduct’

The U.S. Secret Service has placed communications director Anthony Guglielmi and two other non-law enforcement officials on leave pending an investigation into potential misconduct. The agency has not disclosed specific details regarding the nature of the inquiry.
Why it matters
Internal investigations within high-level security agencies like the Secret Service are critical for maintaining public trust and operational integrity.
Secret Service communications director Anthony Guglielmi has been placed on leave, two sources familiar with the matter told NBC News on Wednesday. The news comes as a Secret Service spokesperson revealed that three officials who are not law enforcement personnel were put on leave pending an investigation into potential misconduct. Gregg Bernstein, a spokesperson for Guglielmi, did not expressly say he was on leave, saying merely that he is a “professional of deep integrity whose decades-long public record advocating for local, state and federal agencies speaks for itself.” “He holds profound respect for the mission and work of the United States Secret Service and is cooperating fully with everything being asked of him,” Bernstein said in a statement.
