Second-placed Pranavi's 63 puts India in twin medal hunt, Talwar slips to 7th
Indian golfer Pranavi Urs has moved into second place at the Asian Games following a bogey-free 7-under 63 in the second round. Her performance has also boosted India's standing in the women's team competition.
Why it matters
Success at the Asian Games is a significant milestone for Indian golf, potentially increasing the sport's profile in the country.
The unstoppable Pranavi Urs fired a blistering 7-under 63 in the second round that catapulted her into sole second place, just two shots behind leader Shannon Tan of Singapore, in the women's golf competition at the Asian Games here on Thursday.
Urs started her opening round with back-to-back birdies, sinking four in her first six holes before adding three more in a spectacular stretch from the 13th to the 16th.
What was even better was that there was no bogey in her 63.
Her spectacular charge also transformed the women's team competition, lifting India into the bronze-medal position at seven-under-par 273 as Diksha Dagar (71-73) was T-21st and Aditi Ashok (71-74) was T-25. The two best scores in each round count towards the team medals.
Pranavi's two-round tally of 11-under-par 129 leaves her just two shots behind Tan (63-64), who sits at 13-under.
