Why it matters
The case highlights the complexities of search and rescue operations in rugged forest terrain and the investigative challenges in missing persons cases.
The search for Advait Upadhyay, a techie who has been reported missing since Friday, continued on Tuesday, with police and rescue teams yet to find any trace of him despite an intensive operation involving more than 62 personnel.
Teams from the Bengaluru District police, NDRF, SDRF, the Forest Department, and locals, supported by a drone team, combed the forest and surrounding areas of Shivagange Hills in an effort to locate him.
Police have recovered Advait’s motorcycle, which was found parked at the foothills of Shivagange. CCTV footage shows him parking the motorcycle before he reportedly began trekking towards the hills.
Investigators have learned that Advait had sent a selfie to his fiancée shortly before switching off his mobile phone. Police have also recovered his laptop and are examining it as part of the investigation.
