SDPI complains about noise pollution from manufacturing units near residential area
The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has petitioned local authorities in Tirunelveli to address noise pollution from manufacturing units near residential areas. Residents also submitted various grievances regarding road conditions, community infrastructure, and illegal encroachments.
Why it matters
It highlights the ongoing tension between industrial development and residential quality of life in growing urban centers.
The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has appealed to the Tirunelveli Corporation and the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board to take steps to control noise pollution caused by a few manufacturing units located close to the residential area in Pettai.
In a petition submitted to the Corporation officials during the weekly grievances redress meeting on Tuesday, the SDPI functionaries said the manufacturing units near Teachers’ Colony in Ward 18 generated high decibel noise round-the-clock.
“Since the abnormal noise from these manufacturing units located near the residential area is badly affecting the aged, children and the patients, the Corporation officials should inspect these factories along with Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board officials and take steps for checking noise pollution,” said the petition.
