SCR upgrades Kavach to Version 4.0 on 108-km Hyderabad section

South Central Railway (SCR) has upgraded the indigenous train collision avoidance system, Kavach, from Version 3.2 to Version 4.0 on the Malkajgiri-Kamareddy section of Hyderabad Division, covering 108 route km, general manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava said on Tuesday.

The upgrade is the first Version 4.0 deployment on the zone. Mr. Srivastava inspected the upgraded section along with senior railway officials and reviewed the works.

Kavach is designed to provide an additional safety layer by reducing risks associated with human error. The system is intended to prevent signal passing at danger (SPAD), over-speeding and collisions, and support safer train operations during adverse weather conditions.

SCR had earlier deployed Version 3.2 across 1,465 route km. Version 4.0 incorporates several changes, including improved location accuracy, enhanced transmission of signal aspect information in large railway yards, station-to-station communication through Optical Fibre Cable, and direct integration with existing electronic interlocking systems.
