The South Coast Railway (SCoR) zone has initiated a network-wide drive to clean and disinfect drinking water tanks, filtration systems, and dispensing points across its jurisdiction, according to railway officials in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
The drive covers 385 railway stations in Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring regions, spanning Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, and Guntakal divisions. The zone manages a daily supply of over 45 lakh litres of drinking water across platform taps, water coolers, and vending machines.
Railway officials stated that the project focuses on inspecting the supply chain from the water source to the final delivery point. Maintenance teams are draining, desludging, and disinfecting underground, overhead, and plastic storage tanks. Protective covers and mesh guards are being installed on tank vents and overflow outlets to prevent contamination.
