An eight-year-old girl died after she was run over by a van at Ladies Seat in Yercaud on Friday (June 19). According to police, the child, Menaga, was the daughter of Krishnan, a resident of Vazhavandhi in Yercaud, and studied in Class 3 at a panchayat union primary school at Mundagampadi. On Friday, she, along with other students, headed to school in a van. When the vehicle reached Ladies Seat, the students got down and Menaga was reportedly standing near the van. Driver Ranganathan (42), who did not notice her, moved the van, running over the child. The Yercaud police sent the body for a postmortem examination, registered a case and arrested the driver.
