CHENNAI: Kayalvizhi Alagiri, daughter of former Union minister MK Alagiri, was formally arrested and released on station bail by the Adyar Police on Tuesday in connection with the assault of an SBI branch manager at the bank’s NRI branch in Adyar. She appeared before the investigating officer after being summoned under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and was questioned for about two hours.According to the police, the case arose from an incident on July 20, after Harshin Singh, manager of the SBI NRI branch, raised concerns over a malfunctioning lift in the commercial building owned by Kayalvizhi. Police said repeated requests to rectify the fault through the building’s representatives remained unresolved, prompting the manager to contact her directly.Investigators said Kayalvizhi later visited the branch, where an argument broke out over the lift issue. During the altercation, she assaulted and threatened the manager.
