SARS outlines AEO benefits for traders
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) is promoting its Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme to traders, offering benefits like reduced inspections and priority processing. The program aims to improve supply chain security and facilitate legitimate trade.

Importers, exporters, customs brokers, transporters, warehouse operators, freight forwarders and shipping companies registered or licensed for a customs activity may apply for accreditation under the South African Revenue Service (SARS) Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme.
SARS outlined the application process and benefits during an industry webinar hosted by the Association of Meat Importers and Exporters on September 7.
Applications are submitted electronically through eFiling. SARS introduced the automated application process in December 2023, replacing the previous manual system.
“Everything that we do in this programme is absolutely free of charge,” SARS Client Relationship Manager Masonwabe Matshayana said.
The voluntary programme accredits eligible businesses that meet prescribed customs compliance and supply chain security standards. Its purpose is to facilitate legitimate trade and strengthen the security of international supply chains.
