Why it matters
The outcome of this legal challenge will set a significant precedent for the constitutional interpretation of impeachment proceedings in the Philippines.
MANILA, Philippines - The defense team of Vice President Sara Duterte is ready to raise before the Supreme Court (SC) the voting threshold issue in her Senate impeachment trial.
"Probably in the next two weeks," defense spokesman Michael Poa told The STAR yesterday on the sidelines of the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Manila.
Despite limited time to present evidence in the remaining Article of Impeachment, the alleged unexplained wealth of the Vice President, Poa said they can still file a petition before the SC.
"Right now, it is being discussed internally between myself and attorney Sheila Sison and the client. This is something we will do sooner rather than later. Now, if it will be filed before the impeachment ends, hopefully we can do that," said Poa.
