Sapling plantation drive in Sathanur

Environmental organisations organised a sapling plantation drive on the edges of the Periyakulam tank and areas near Pidari Amman Temple at Sathanur on Thursday with the aim of increasing the green cover in the region.

A total of 70 species of native trees were chosen for the sapling plantation drive, conducted by Makkal Sakthi Iyakkam, Thaneer, and local environmentalists.

“Trees are essential for nature conservation and it is important to not just plant, but also nurture the saplings continuously for best results,” said K.C. Neelamegam, secretary, Thaneer, in a statement.
