This case represents a significant development in Philippine anti-corruption efforts and impacts the composition of the Senate.
MANILA, Philippines - The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division has ordered another 90-day preventive suspension against Sen. Jinggoy Estrada.
In a five-page resolution penned by Associate Justice Zaldy Trespeses, Estrada is suspended from his Senate seat and any other public post he holds.
Estrada, who has been detained at the New Quezon City Jail since June 1, is accused of plunder over P573 million worth of alleged kickbacks from flood control projects.
His suspension issued in June by the anti-graft court's Second Division expired.
The court asked the Senate President to implement the suspension and report back within five days of receipt.
Meanwhile, for lack of merit, the removal of former public works secretary Manuel Bonoan as an accused in Estrada's plunder and graft cases has been upheld by the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division.
