San Diego Comic-Con 2026 has returned with thousands of fans showcasing elaborate costumes and attending major studio panels. The event featured surprise celebrity appearances and previews for upcoming films and television series.
Why it matters
Comic-Con serves as a primary cultural barometer for the entertainment industry and fan engagement trends.

Tens of thousands of fans filled the San Diego Convention Center this week for Comic-Con International, which runs through Sunday, and many of them came dressed for the occasion. The convention floor and the surrounding Gaslamp Quarter turned into a showcase of elaborate, handmade costumes drawn from anime, manga, video games and film.
Recent anime and manga hits were well represented. Brianna Bobadilla, of San Diego, came as Riyo Reaper from "Gachiakuta." A group of friends turned out as the apprentice witches of "Witch Hat Atelier," and Aylin Sotelo, who traveled from Mexico, dressed as Nurse Joy from "Pokémon."
