SAN Command Council hears resource limitations no excuse for shortcomings
The South African Navy Command Council recently held a three-day session to address operational shortcomings and resource management. Vice Admiral Monde Lobese emphasized that resource limitations are not an excuse for preventable failures and called for greater accountability among leadership.

Following its annual force preparation exercise – Red Lion – the Command Council of the SA Navy (SAN) spent three days working on ways to improve disciplined execution, measurable accountability and responsible use of limited resources.
The Command Council is the maritime service’s senior decision-making forum, the SAN reported. Part of its time at Admiralty House in Simon’s Town from 25 to 27 August was spent reviewing implementation of previous decisions, evaluating emerging “institutional risks” and directing corrective action where performance did not meet set expectations.
SAN Chief, Vice Admiral Monde Lobese, is reported as telling his senior command resource limitations cannot be an excuse for “preventable internal shortcomings”. He called for stronger follow-through on decisions, early reporting of impediments as well as progress reports backed by firm target dates and verifiable results.
