Samsung’s U.S. headquarters change hits hundreds of workers
Samsung Electronics is laying off hundreds of employees in New Jersey and Texas as part of a headquarters relocation strategy. While the company is seeing growth in AI chip demand, it faces challenges in its consumer electronics division due to market fluctuations.

Samsung Electronics has cut hundreds of jobs, affecting U.S. workers in the states of New Jersey and Texas, with some being offered relocations, according to a Reuters report citing documents and anonymous sources.
The layoffs were not attributed to AI, as the South Korean giant informed Reuters that Samsung Electronics America was moving its headquarters to Texas.
Over the weekend, Samsung confirmed that 739 roles in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey were affected. Around 100 workers in the mobile division at Plano, Texas, were also laid off, the report said.
As per a statement from the company, there was no global restructuring affecting Samsung’s consumer product business.
While Samsung’s business was heavily boosted by soaring AI chip demand and heavy investments in chip plants, other parts of its business — such as consumer electronics — have been negatively impacted by the same set of factors.
