Samsung Galaxy Ring Sleep Apnea Update: Release Date, How It Works and What You Need
Samsung has announced that its Galaxy Ring will receive an FDA-cleared sleep apnea risk detection feature via a software update this fall. This update brings the wearable device in line with capabilities previously exclusive to the Galaxy Watch lineup.

Samsung confirmed at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22, 2026, that the Galaxy Ring will receive FDA-cleared sleep apnea risk detection this fall. Sharanya Desai, Samsung’s Head of Digital Health, announced during the London event that the Galaxy Ring will become the “first and only FDA-cleared, over-the-counter ring device for sleep apnea risk protection.”
The update arrives without new hardware. Samsung did not unveil a Galaxy Ring 2 at Unpacked, and the next-generation ring is not expected until early 2027. Sleep apnea detection gives the original $399 Galaxy Ring another major health feature while building on regulatory approvals Samsung first secured for its wearable platform three years ago.
