Sambar deer rescued from HNSS Canal in Sri Sathya Sai district
Forest department officials in the Sri Sathya Sai district successfully rescued a vulnerable Sambar deer that had fallen into the HNSS canal. The animal is currently receiving veterinary care at a rehabilitation center before its eventual release.

A schedule-I sambar deer ( Rusa Unicolor ), classified as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, was rescued by the Forest department officials after falling into the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) Canal near Penukonda in Sri Sathya Sai district on Wednesday.
A forest official said that the deer was searching for water when it slipped into the canal, and its injuries prevented it from reaching the bank. The HANUMAN project team of the Forest department rushed to the spot and rescued the animal within 20 minutes.
