Salem Railway Division collects ₹14.38 crore through ticket-checking drives in six months

The Salem Railway Division reported a total collection of ₹14.38 crore from ticket-checking drives conducted between April and September 2026. This figure represents a significant increase in penalties collected compared to the same period in the previous year.

The Salem Railway Division collected ₹14.38 crore through ticket-checking drives held over the past six months (April to September).
During the period, ticket-checking squads of the division found 81,461 cases of ticketless travel and collected an amount of ₹8.54 crore in penalties, an increase of 17.3% in the amount collected compared with the corresponding period last year. During April-September 2025, the division collected ₹7.28 crore in penalties, according to a press release.
Moreover, 78,380 cases of irregular travel were also found during April-September, and ₹5.81 crore was collected in penalties, marking an increase of 26.9% in the amount collected as against the same period last year. During April-September 2025, the division collected ₹4.58 crore in penalties.
During April-September 2026, the squads found 481 cases of unbooked luggage or luggage exceeding the permitted quantity. The amount levied as penalties was ₹2.20 lakh.
