Sait supporters protest denial of Cabinet berth
Supporters of six-time MLA Tanveer Sait staged protests in Karnataka following his exclusion from the state Cabinet. The demonstrations caused traffic disruptions as protesters demanded recognition for his seniority within the Congress party.
Why it matters
The incident reflects internal party friction and the challenges of cabinet formation in regional Indian politics.
Supporters of MLA Tanveer Sait staged a demonstration at the Manipal Hospital junction on the Bengaluru–Mysuru Highway on Sunday, protesting against the denial of a Cabinet berth to their leader, a six-time MLA.
This was the second such protest by Mr. Sait’s supporters. Earlier, they had staged demonstrations at several locations in Udayagiri after he, despite being a strong aspirant for a ministerial berth, was not inducted into the D.K. Shivakumar Cabinet.
A large number of supporters, including women, from the Narasimharaja Assembly constituency gathered at the junction, affecting the smooth movement of traffic on the busy stretch. The protest resulted in a traffic jam, which was later cleared by the traffic police after detaining and subsequently releasing the protesters.
