Sabarimala roads to be fully repaired before Mandalam pilgrimage season, says Kerala Minister P.K. Basheer
Kerala Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer has announced a comprehensive plan to repair roads leading to the Sabarimala temple by November 2026. The initiative aims to improve road safety and infrastructure quality ahead of the upcoming Mandalam-Makaravilakku pilgrimage season.

A high-level review meeting chaired by Kerala Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer on Thursday (July 17, 2026) decided to upgrade the Sabarimala roads and the related road network to high standards by November, 2026, ahead of the next Mandalam-Makaravilakku pilgrimage season at the Ayyappa temple.
According to the Minister, renovation of the Sabarimala roads has not been carried out properly since 2021 due to various reasons. The delay in laying pipes under the Jal Jeevan Mission has also adversely affected the condition of the Sabarimala roads.
However, the Minister said that this time, all Sabarimala roads will be completely repaired, ensuring quality.
The review meeting was attended by senior Public Works department (PWD) officials from the districts connected to Sabarimala.
